What USB-Check checks

Not just whether the stick is readable — but whether every single track plays at the club.

01

File system and partition table

FAT32 or exFAT, MBR or GUID — the most common reason a stick isn't recognized at all.

02

rekordbox database

Playlists, cues, and entries pointing to missing files.

03

Every single track

Codec, sample rate and bit depth from the header, then fully decoded.

04

Structure and names

Path lengths, folder depth, and characters that don't survive FAT32.

05

The stick itself

Reported vs. actual capacity — fake sticks get caught.

The right benchmark for every CDJ

Different players, different limits. USB-Check knows them all.

CDJ-2000

no FLAC, no ALAC

No FLAC or ALAC. The stick has to be FAT-formatted.

CDJ-2000nexus

no FLAC, no ALAC

Reads HFS+, but not exFAT.

CDJ-2000NXS2

FLAC & ALAC up to 96 kHz

FLAC and ALAC from this model on. exFAT is still not supported.

XDJ-1000MK2

FLAC & ALAC up to 48 kHz

Reads FAT, FAT32 and HFS+, but not exFAT.

CDJ-3000

FLAC & ALAC up to 96 kHz

Reads FAT32, HFS+ and, with current firmware, exFAT.

CDJ-3000X

FLAC & ALAC · OneLibrary

Reads exFAT, but only OneLibrary. The stick needs an export from rekordbox 7.2.11 or newer.

CDJ-1500X

FLAC & ALAC · OneLibrary

The compact sibling of the CDJ-3000X: exFAT yes, but OneLibrary only.

Questions & Answers

Do I still need to test my stick on a CDJ before a gig?

No — that's exactly what USB-Check is for. The app checks everything a CDJ checks when reading the stick, just beforehand and comfortably on your Mac.

Which CDJs is USB-Check compatible with?

Currently supported models: CDJ-2000, CDJ-2000nexus, CDJ-2000NXS2, XDJ-1000MK2, CDJ-3000, CDJ-3000X, CDJ-1500X.

Does USB-Check also work if I don't use rekordbox?

No. USB-Check specifically checks the exports rekordbox writes to your USB stick. If you use different software, there's nothing for USB-Check to check.

How long does a check take?

The quick check takes 1–3 minutes, the standard check 5–10 minutes — depending on the size and quality of your stick.

Is the check reliable?

Yes. We've put a lot of time into developing and verifying the check mechanisms. If your USB stick is recognized by your Mac, you can rule out a hardware defect. USB-Check handles the rest. What can't be checked: the firmware version of the CDJ at the club, loose connections and faulty USB ports, and the lifespan of your USB stick.

Does USB-Check work offline?

Yes. After the one-time activation, the app runs locally

Is the app still being developed?

Yes. More ideas will be implemented in the future. Please be a little patient here.

How do I know if there's an update?

USB-Check shows you a banner as soon as a new version is available. You can then download and install the update.

Does USB-Check also work on Windows?

No. The app works exclusively on macOS. Signed and verified by Apple.

What happens if I check a stick multiple times?

If nothing has changed on the stick since the last check, it won't be checked again. You're taken straight to the results of the last check, saving valuable time. Perfect if you want to check multiple sticks.

Can I reactivate USB-Check on a new Mac?

Yes. You can deactivate the license yourself in the app on the old Mac, then activate it on the new one — done.
