MÖW – Hayyah

MÖW is an Egyptian organic house artist whose new release, Hayyah, is a mystical EP that’s out now via Sol Selectas.

The release has three original tracks and a remix by Hot Oasis who brings the heat with his enchanting rework of “Ya Habayeb.” This is the first time that MÖW has released a solo EP via Sol Selectas, following a contribution to one of the record label’s compilations. It’s a release that combines traditional instruments from his Egyptian heritage with electronic sounds. He is a well-respected DJ within Egypt, and this release shows he knows all the ingredients that are required to mesmerise a dance floor.

“Hayyah” is the EP’s title track, and it opens the release with an instrumental intro, before breaking into a chugging groove with a throbbing bassline and shuffling drum patterns. It has a powerful vocal by Nass Makan, which gives it a cinematic sound, painting pictures of sand dunes and bountiful oases.

Track two, “Ya Habayeb,” has oriental chord structures and traditional instruments intertwining with rhythmic synth melodies and uplifting vocals.

Hot Oasis’ remix of “Ya Habayeb” focuses on electronic sounds to deliver a rework with indie dance undertones. It’s a remix in line with the original tracks he has previously released through Sol Selectas, and other labels including the likes of Bar 25 and Stil vor Talent.

“Disco Saba” brings the release to a close with melodies played using the Saba scale, that is traditional to Arabic folk-law. It has a synth arpeggio, accompanied by the joyful sounds of the Zurna and Mizmir instruments.
