Ayala (IT) – Njambi EP

There are two versions of Njambi that have both been produced by Ayala (IT), but there are also remixes from Djeff and Jaykill. The original mix is slick organic house, but the other versions have more of an Afro house flavour.

Those who are already fans of Ayala (IT) will most likely be aware of his music on Rebirth and MoBlack, but Sol Selectas seems to have become his preferred outlet, and this is his 5th time on the record label. Fans of Afro house will be excited to see Djeff feature a remix, as the Portugal-based producer is a highly respected pioneer of the genre. Jaykill is an emerging talent from France who joins the Sol Selectas roster following music on the likes of Cosmic Awakenings and Shango Records.

The Njambi original mix features the magnificent voice of Nes Mburu whose sensual tones create a mystifying vibe that’s carried by deep bass chords and a poignant piano melody. Its cinematic vibe is both uplifting and compelling, which is enough to get any dance floor moving.

The “Alt Mix” which is also produced by Ayala (IT) chunks up the percussion and strips back the piano to let the rhythm take control.

Djeff is the first of the remix artists, and his version is a definite highlight of the release. He has focused on the dance floor orientated elements of the original, but adds his own percussion to increase the energy. He also adds his own bassline to add weight to the bottom end of his thickset remix.

Jaykill takes a similar approach to Djeff, but leaves in more of the melody elements from the original. It’s a happy medium that’s got a touch more energy than Ayala (IT)’s versions, and slightly more emotion than Djeff’s remix.
