Guy Maayan – Light in the Sky

Guy Maayan has been a long-time member of the Sol Selectas roster, and he has featured on many of the record label’s compilations, but this time he is back on the imprint with a solo EP.

The three-track release is in the same organic style that Guy Maayan and Sol Selectas are well known for, and it ranges between organic house and Afro house. All of the tracks have congas and other natural percussion, alongside trumpets and other live instruments.

There is a hot and humid vibe to this sun-drenched release, and all of the tracks have a sound that paint sonic images of a tropical oasis nestled with in a desert landscape.

“Niache” is the opening track, and it’s an Afro house production with trumpet flurries and guitar licks, which combine with emotive vocals while the upbeat percussion fills the groove with joyous energy.

“Uplaya” is second, and it has many of the ingredients that are present in its predecessor, but it’s got a more laidback sound with drawn out trumpet notes and deep pads, that sweep across the groove of the upbeat percussion.

“Light in the Sky” is the EP’s title track, and it’s a change of pace from the other two, as it has a dropped tempo with trippy atmosphere and haunting flutes washed in delay FX.
