SOL097 Raidho – Jaguar Dance

Sol Selectas is back after a short summer break and the record label has jumped straight back in at the deep end with a very impressive release by Raidho. Raidho has previously featured on Sol Selectas and his latest EP includes three organic house originals alongside remixes by AMÉMÉ & NenaHalena, LUM and West & Hill. The EP takes its title from the opening track “Jaguar Dance” which pays homage to DJ Rolando’s Knights of the Jaguar, which is a classic Detroit techno anthem that has been reimagined for this release. Both of the other originals are equally standout and are good examples of the style that Raidho has previously featured on Sol Selectas plus other record labels such as Bar 25 Music and 3000 Grad Records. “Whispers” is one of the other originals and it orientates around oriental percussion that’s been washed in delay and sequenced into shuffling rhythms that have been wrapped in deep atmospherics. Last of the originals is “Slow Life” and as the title suggests, it’s slightly more downtempo than the other tracks on this release, fusing shamanistic flutes with heavy synth chords. It’s got a very distinctive sound and could easily be the track that draws many people to this release. When it comes to the remixes, all of them are pretty solid, but the collaborative mix by AMÉMÉ & NenaHalena is awesome, as both are hotly tipped artists liked to labels like Crosstown rebels and Stil Vor Talent. They turn Jaguar Dance into an Afro house rework with extra percussion and jackin’ rhythms. West & Hill are a Dutch duo with links to Kindisch and BLOND:ISH’s Abracadabra Music and their remix of Whispers smooths out the percussion while also adding some soothing guitar chords. LUM provides two remixes of Slow Life, the first one titled ‘Los Tigres Del Futuro Mi’ is a techy rework with building tension and his ‘After Party Mix’ adds a squelching acid bassline and removes the kick drum to create a trippy version full of atmosphere.
